The Musical Century

I'll take a look at Ross' book, but based on this review I'm not very optimistic. His apparently non-judgmental approach to musical modernism doesn't sound to me like what we really need. After a century of dwindling audiences and rising levels of noise, isn't it about time for the jury to come back in on the value of modernism? I've commented on these issues here: http://lesterhhunt.blogspot.com/search?q=zweig
