Socialism in a Democratic State governed by an Electorate defined by Universal Suffrage must collapse because of a blatant contradiction. The voters end by wanting two incompatible policies from the State: 1) There is no end to the demands for expanded Government Services increases in Consumer Goods provided at nominal cost by the Government. From free cheese to flood insurance, the list becomes endless, limited only by human appetites, and increasingly more expensive (and ever more plausible). 2) Voters will form a multitude of organizations, each one determined to displace the costs of the largesse onto a different catergory of citizens, which are usually the most productive citizens now defined as the "Predatory Rich". No Economy can form a Capital Base, sufficiently large and efficient, to support a Labor Force able to pay the taxes required to maintain the structure of this State, for Human Wants are Limitless. So the Politicians and Bureaucracy comprising the Government protect their tenure. First they restrict Political Activity. Then they restrict the Franchise. The third step is Despotism, which the Bureaucracy will choose. The current President is toying with Reforms in order that he might forestall the descent into Despotism. I believe that he must fail, although I desire to be convinced otherwise.
