Mayor Rejects Suggestion That State Will Punish Columbia

Submitted by Michelle Harrison, Sep 25, 2007 23:58

As an American and a teacher for the past thirty years, I have some real concerns over exactly what is being taught to these students at Columbia. To hear in this article that there are capital funds, and student aid at taxpayer expense, used to fund this university is unacceptable.

What if something had happened on campus that day considering one of the world's most dangerous men was allowed to enter a school of students. A school as you pointed out, that receives major state & federal dollars. How by the way, just how much money did it cost for this dynamic speaker to entertain the elite Columbia crowd?

You cannot pretend this did not happen, and in the next breath indicate funding should be contingent on the "quality" of the education. If allowing this man on campus does not reflect exactly such a lack of quality what would? We all heard those students applauding this terrorist that our own President will not meet. What would be bad enough in Bloomberg's eyes? Columbia is a school with a history of antisemitism; and now this. The last time I looked we had federal laws in place to protect Jews; or does it stop at those Columbia gates?

We don't have to worry about the war in the middle east. The middle east has arrived, and they are right inside one our universities being funded by our own government. Excuse my lack of political correctness but I am about to throw up.
