Giuliani Calls Idea of Quitting Iraq ‘Terrible Mistake'

Submitted by Earl Evleth, Dec 7, 2006 09:14

My own guess is by 2008 the public will not want to hear anymore about Iraq, certainly not about staying there. That war will be treated like the Vietnamese War, something to forget about. No politician since who was running for a major office argued that we should have gone back in after the North Vietnamese broke the agreement and went in for the kill. Politicans get elected by telling people what they want to hear. So McCain and Giuliani will have to find other issues to run on. And Senator Clinton will not talk about her original support for the war. That facts are that the US has dug a big hole, climbed into it and can't find a way to climb out so the nation can walk off. So there is no "cut and run" option, Once you have made scrambled eggs, there is no way to reconstitut them back into their respective shells as eggs again. The US made a mess of this war because it did not understand the region. Afghanistan risks going in the same direction. So we will ease our way out, as the Baker commission suggested, but it will be a long visit in the dentist chair. The neocons are dead, Bush no longer any credibility, Rumsfeld is out, and Cheney is a goner.
