The New York Sun has properly labeled a September 17 article by Jacob Gershman "Spitzer at the Clubhouse Turn". Neil Getnick, featured in the article and September 18 Sun editorial, cut his teeth in politics, like former City Council Speaker Gifford Miller, circa 1990 as President of the notorious East side political organization, the so-called "Reform" Lexington Democratic Club. Getnick was installed by club powerbroker the late Larry Douglas, who ended his career as Pat Buchanan's New York campaign manager. Lexington Democratic Club for many years has financed its operation by in violation of the law by soliciting tickets to its annual dinner from judicial candidates.On July 10, NYRA notified the racing and wagering board that it had retained the services of Getnick & Getnick as special counsel to assess and report on its business practices at a minimum fee of $125,000 a month for five years," seemingly without competitive bidding. The Lexington Democratic Club claims it is a "reform" Democratic organization. The late J. Raymond "the Fox" Jones described "reformers" as reformers in the sense that he wanted to "reform" money from other people's pockets into their own.
