A man in my shul had been on my case to ask her out. But I didn't contact her--or get a look at her--until Rosh Hashana 1994. We began dating two months later and got engaged the next Valentine's Day. If twas life imitating art, for I had written years earlier, in a wedding parody of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl": "And when she glances across the mechitza / She'll take her chances with someone who needs huh."
