U.N. Chief Declines To Confront Libya on Human Rights Record

Submitted by Claire K. Carro, Sep 11, 2007 21:12

Unfortunately, this is not the first time a regime's deplorable human rights record has been ignored when it is believed that a greater good might come out in the long run. The fact is that the UN has no hope of mediating the Darfur crisis without Gadhafi. He has experience dealing with the rebels and his fellow African leaders view him as wise because of his long tenure. Gadhafi has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself on theworld stage. Let's see what he can do. No one will forget his past and he knows that. This is why he must be successful. For the sake of the people of Darfur, i hope he is. It is sad, though, that an abuser of human rights is mediating in a dispute which involves horrific human rights violations. What a world we live in!!
