To Test Federer, Roddick Must Go for Broke

Just finished this morning reading Mr. Perotta's fine analysis on what Roddick would have to do to have a chance to beat Federer last night. The author was indeed prescient in his prescription that Roddick would have to mainly hit more "first serves" on his second serves. His point was that a cautious serving game would unlikely produce a Roddick victory. I think Roddick followed this advice perfectly and hit out on most of his ground strokes playing as aggressively (and as well) as he ever has against Federer.

What I learned new about Federer The Great is just how good his retrurn-of-service is. As McEnroe and Andre pointed out to the tv audience Roger all aspects of his game are terrific--- without ( I don't think)specifying his fabulous return. Yet without that piece of magic in his bag of tricks I think Federer may have lost the match. What a delight watching this Master play and reading Mr. Perotta's insightful comments.
