This is a very odd review. It's completely unclear why Price believes that Professor Colley's phrases are "downright ugly," because there is nothing in the sentence he quotes that suggests this. She is a leading historian from Princeton and if Price doesn't get the book, that reflects poorly upon his intelligence, not Professor Colley's craft.
