Rise of Keepers Has Had Negative Impact on Game

Submitted by Randy, Aug 22, 2007 15:11

Goalkeepers add an element of excitement. When an impossibly stoppable shot is blocked by the keeper, it is as exciting to see as if a goal had been made. Soccer doesn't have to be a high scoring game. Goals don't make the game exciting. Getting the goals past the opposing defense and the keeper is exciting. Really, imagine a game without a keeper. Goals would be a dime-a-dozen. That's one of the reasons I don't find basketball as exciting as soccer. Soccer employs more strategy that makes all those near goals exciting and the actual goals even more exciting.
