There is no reason to think that a psychologist who is perhaps a healer or a counselor ought to be, or would want to be, involved in interrogations.It is my thought that a psychologist's training is grounded in Western concepts, one of which is one's irrevocable right to life and liberty. Would this not. in the eyes of a jihadi, automatically disqualify him or her as an objective observer?This notion of ultimate valueof a human life is not unversally shared. Not at all. It is a premise, isn't it, that those who are enemies of America, want us gone? And they want the work done by any means necessary: suicide bombings, poison gas, fire, WMD's. Whatever works is useful. What we might call homicide, or an effort at genocide, in their view is a national or religious duty.So we have a situation where all things are relative, and conditional. In this situation, why is a psychologist needed? The person who aims at our destruction comes from a foreign culture. And his (her) patriotic or religious duty is death to Åmerica.We hope that our last thought is no odious comparison since none is intended: why would one call on a veterinarian to do brain surgery on a human?
