Ethics Ruling Raises Issues for U.N. Chief

Submitted by Charles Hong, Aug 21, 2007 11:20

Mr. Ban himself has committed an ethic mistake when he refused to accept Taiwan's application for admission to the U.N. as a member nation. The reason of his refusal was that Taiwan was part of China. As the Secretary-General, Mr. Ban does not have the authority to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant. All he can do is to receive the application and forward it to the General Assembly for consideration. Instead, Mr. Ban has acted as if he were the king of the world. It is a common sense that Taiwan and China are completely different political entities. To say Taiwan as part of China is worse than to say South Korea as part of North Korea. The U.N. has to be reformed or ruined by itself. Charles Hong
