there's not much i can say about max roach other than 'wow'...i just listened to 'speak, brother, speak', a live recording from the jazz workshop; as with many jazz records, the players, music and thought presented here offer connections to the whole history of jazz and life itself; max spoke, and will continue to speak, with a timeless voice that each of us could hear, and with good fortune, respond to.

art davis, the bass player who passed away last week, performed on two great max roach lp's--'percussion, bittersweet' and 'it's tme'...i think those titles say it all...
