The Sun and the Post have followed the far right line of attacking this school and personalizing the attack against Debbie Almontaser, one of the leading moderate Muslims in this city. Now the message to the Arab and Muslim communities is clearly very provocative. While the interim choice may be brave and may be competent, the implication for many people is that the Jewish institutions are in control of every decision. Surely this is overkill and will result in backlash and growing anger at such disrespect to other communities.

Ms. Almontaser has worked hard for the KGIA school and should be re-instated. Surely Debbie Almontaser's impressive record of opposing violence in action as well as speech should also be recognized. She has absolutely nothing to apologize for in explaining the meaning of an arabic term. The Sun has much to apologize for in leading us into this crisis and misrepresenting an exemplary individual record of service and dishonoring the Muslim and the Arab communities of New York CIty. Though response must be nonviolent, there will certainly be a wish to "throw off oppression" of the negative NYC tabloid cuture.
