Well this editorial is really something. You argue in defense of Chertoff that cracking down on illegal Mexican immigrants will have a negative impact on American business. How do you support Chertoff's point? By pointing to the difficulty in finding software developers. Ahhh...yeah. If only it werent' for all those Mexican Java and relational database programmers wading across the Rio Grande. This attempt to conflate illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central and South America with high-wage, high-skilled labor betrays the utter weakness of the amnesty crowd's arguments. If anything, the flood of low-skilled illegal immigrants from the south has so inflated the overall immigrant pool that would be legal, highly skilled immigrants from India, Europe and elsewhere are pushed to the back of a shrinking line. It is only by controlling our borders and drastically reducing illegal immigration that we can expand the opportunities to legal immigrants from the world over.
