My Romney Problem

The author has an obvious tone of bias, no problem though since it;'s an opinion piece. However, his bias should be taken into account when we read the story about "Brandon" One possible reasoning for Brandon's choosing a straight lifestyle could be he believed in the basic tenets of the LDS church and that guided his decision to reject the gay lifestyle. He may have decided he was willing to suppress or sacrifice to find peace with the belief system he truly believes in. He may have weighed the pros and cons and realized the pros of following his belief system outweighed the cons of not.

The problem with this article is that it has a faulty premise: The only reason a gay Mormon stays Mormon is because he gets pressured from Mormon Culture. It could never be that they have an abiding belief of LDS doctrine and theology that outweighs there sexual desires.

The story of Brandon is full of the author's inferences. Brandon must be gay, Brandon must not be happy to get married, Brandon probably isn't happy today. Those all could be the case, but given the authors point of view, they could equally as well not be the case. For all we know Brandon was bisexual and equally happy to be married to women as a man. Brandon might have been straight and just gave off some funny signals to a group eager to read them.

For all we know Brandon doesn't exist. After all the author lied when said gay people can't come to church. Last I checked, a man could spend Saturday night at a gay orgy and still be welcomed at Church on Sunday. Attendance on Sunday has no prerequisites, it is open to anyone.

Lastly, the LDS church does not teach straight marriage as a means of cure. It actually has taught against that recently. If Brandon was infact gay, and was in fact marrying in attempt to cure himself, then it's his problem. He had to convince a girl he was in love with her. If he wasn't, then he clearly deceived her. But alas, according to the author, this isn't Brandon's fault, this is the Mormon church's fault who forced Brandon to lie and misrepresent himself, and not act out his feelings. None of this was Brandon's choice, I guess he is just a pawn in game between the LDS church and Homosexuality.
