A Saudi Strategy

Before we decide how to divide the Saudi monarchy, we should consider our lack of understanding of anything Moslem. If the goal is to keep money out of the Sunni terrorists in Iraq, there are few short-term solutions. We do, however, have a few. A partition of the country, with the Kurds receiving all areas that were Kurdish (removing Sunni Arabs from areas that they settled to remove the Kurds) in the north and giving the Shiites all the south would force the Sunni Arabs into an area in the middle with little oil. A good series of fences and forts will be needed to enforce the partition, but it would then mean that the US and UK (and allies) could withdraw to the north and south and then merely protect their allies (two new countries) from what would then be foreign aggression. The Kurds are already our friends. The Shiites would need our protection from the Sunnis of Iraq and the Shiites of Iran. This would then force the Kurds and the Turks (already strong investors in Kurdistan) into a very close relationship, something that might bode well for the Turks and their Kurdish minorities relationships.

While the dust is settling in what was Iraq, the US can work on developing an economy that does not rely on imported oil. This might include opening up of more of Alaska, nuclear power (take a look at France), harvesting more power from our waste, as well as solar and tidal sources.
