Remember Ripken, Not the Myth of Ripken

Submitted by Larry Krasner, Jul 26, 2007 11:11

This is what I remember most, well after the record, Cal Ripken had set. It was his own greed in continuing to add to the streak, as long as possible, at the expense of hurting his team in a playoff race. Ripken was injured and declining as a player, as well as in the mist of a terrible slump. The Orioles would have benefited with a younger, healthier and capable repacement. But Ripkin vigorously refused to sit, and in doing so upset many team-mates, during this playoff run.
