I think you need to elaborate on why 1947 is a critical starting point for this analysis. There were many great ballplayers, teams and records before that date (Ruth's homerun records, Gehrig's consecutive games, DiMaggios hitting streak, Cobb's stolen base and career hits); as they occurred before 1947 does this dimish them? Or is it that using the pre-1947 numbers makes your own analysis less sexy (walks to SB)?

I ask this question with utmost respect & acknowledgment that the best talent was not on the field pe-1947 (Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and others) but do believe that the accomplishments of the great ball players before that date should also not be ignored.
