Bicycle Plan Is Put On Fast Track

Submitted by Rita Popper, Jul 23, 2007 12:46

Benches line the curb of E. 91st St. between 2nd and 3 Ave. Seniors occupy the benches. When a senior or anyone, as a matter of fact, gets up off the bench they will be literally standing in the bike path. Statistics prove that a broken bone in an elderly person could exascerbate an early demise. The handicapped entrance to Ruppert Park that abuts 91st is also on 91st St. Ruppert Park does not allow ball playing. The only place our children can safely play is on this closed enclave. We understand that bicyclists need bike paths. When does the Department of Transportation understand that pedestrians also need some protection? A bike path where Senior Citizens, handicapped people and children play is counterintuitive. Rita Popper President Knickerbocker Plaza Tenants' Association
