Art and the Wrath of Human Folly

It is interesting that just as Democrats and Republicans are now just the opposite of what they were at the time of the Civil War here in America, so artists are depicted in film as a 180 degree reversal of what they actually were in their lifetime. Art to us today (in novels and films)is depicted as being created by romantic rebels when in fact they were mostly willing tools of the establishment struggling to make a living. Delacroix we look at as the Prince of the Romantics where in fact he dispised the notion and called himself a Classicist. Just because they were poor and lived in a garret and had sex with their models makes us think (thanks to writers and film makers)that they didn't aspire beyond that. Baloney. Ah yes, the opression of the creative arts. Get out the Stradivarious. Actually it's more a matter of get out Hollywood which has NO respect for History or accuracy, or anything besides making a $. The problem here is that every blank canvas that sits infront of the screen and sees this garbage walks away thinking they have seen what actually happened and carry with them a subconscious anger for the films villians which are usually just an expression of the writers thoughts, creative or otherwise. Pot boilers are never realized for what they are: efforts to make money, accuracy has nothing to do with it. They are instead looked at as brave statements of brave souls who can't be held down by the 'powers that be.' More baloney.
