Members of groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and Hizb ut-Tahrir worked very hard to incite hatred and violence over the cartoon issue. The late Ahmed Abu Laban in Denmark even created vile cartoons that he brought to the Middle East, where he claimed that they had been drawn by Islam hating Westerners. People like him are more vile than the cartoons. (There's a great segment in the film "Islam vs Islamism" where Laban is forced to admit that he created the more inflamatory cartoons.)
