Damon (despite his $14 million a year) could be a huge asset on the bench. Send Thompson back to AAA and move Damon to the bench. Use him as a pinch runner or as a pinch hitter against right handers. With Giambi's return (who has higher OBP, average, and SLG) along with Melky's superior defense and Philips hitting at first, there is no reason Damon shouldn't be used from the bench or traded.
