Congestion Mayor

Infuriating is the word that comes to mind when I read this article. Not only do you cite no real evidence for your claim that the "congestion charge" has led to higher traffic rates in London(possibly because this is actually not true), but you also give credit to the greatest myth of all concerning traffic, that all congestion is local. Yes, the highest asthma rates are in the outer boroughs, but that is because those boroughs are filled with cars coming to Manhattan. Where do you think all those cars on the Bruckner, The Cross Bronx Expressway, or the Major Deegan Expressway are coming from? Charge money to enter the CBD and you'd remove cars from those highways. Furthermore, you fail to mention that the Mayor was seeking approval for a pilot program, not a permanent one. I hope that you have some other plan to alleviate traffic and fund mass transit. If not then you have no one but yourself to blame when you're pounding your steering wheel in frustration or you find yourself waiting for a crowded subway train.

It wasn't "the people" who opposed this plan, it was the special interests, the narrow minded and selfish members of the New York State Legislature who have no understanding of how to manage a truly great city.
