how much restaurants mark-up their wines, beers and alcohol. restaurant mark-ups used to be roughly 2-2.5x wholesale, now they are at least 3x retail, & usually more! beer mark-ups are equally as egregious, with alcohol mark-ups approaching the ridiculous! and of course, "everyone" knows, restaurants don't make any profit on their food - one of the greatest myths perpetuated by the industry & their puppets. question: who would open a business that loses money on its main product?????

as david blum observes shorter lines at GROM, as the silliness wears off, i propose just saying "NON" to ordering wine in restaurants until the owners finally get "IT", & charge "reasonable prices. interestingly, most restaurant wine lists are comprised of indistinguishable wines.

i know that is asking too much of a public that enjoys being made to look ludicrous, whilst the owners, waiters, etc, etc... laugh beyond our backs!
