An Ode to the Squeezebox
in response to reader comment: Accordion Noir radio up in Canada

Submitted by Rich Pizzo, Jul 9, 2007 12:34

Sorry, I actually like polka. Going to Many Weddings as a kid, polkas were the most fun.. And as a kid, Sunday mornings were full of polka music from the radio. I have not seen or heard any polkas in over 40 years,,, my memory is that they were fun, musically wonderful, but they DID NOT rock.... sorry, maybe you do not know what ROCK means, Not all popular music rocks, a lot of rock doesn't rock... I agree there is all qualities of performance in every genre.. Accordions faded out of public awareness in America, except for small ethnic cultures... But The Accordion is coming back, mostly because it has revealed itself in music that rocks.. It's not the genre, Cajun, Zydeco, Blues, Country, Swampabilly, Rockabilly, Norteno, or Mariarchi because not all music of these genres ROCK... But when the accordion ROCKS it happens in these genres.. I never heard a polka that ROCKS... but I am willing to listen, post a link! ROCK is a musical phenomena that some bands and some songs are able to reach it happens in popular music mostly... best regards
