Mr Moretti - I have just finished reading your article titled "Scandal Has Cyclists Dazed Before Tour". I would like to discuss a couple of points that you either missed or did not research. First, Paolo Bettini's comments regarding the current confusion in cycling are completely misinterpreted by you. You try to say, in a backhanded way, that Bettini's confusion is in regard to whether or not he may take performance-enhancing drugs. That shows either a glaring lack of understanding on your part, or a level of sarcasm that is insulating to your readers. Rather that explore the current power struggles in cycling that have the riders in an interesting and awkward position, you take the easy way out. Your comments on the Landis case, where you boil Landis's entire defense down to Jack Daniels or an "I don't know" shrug of the shoulders, show an incredible lack of knowledge and research. Again, you may be taking the easy way out, just trying to use sarcasm and feigned humor rather than doing real reporting. Either way, your readers deserve better. How about exploring the following angle? After reviewing the Landis case and looking into the details of the science, it is clear that, regardless of whether Landis is guilty or not, the testing process has some serious flaws. If I were a professional cyclist, and a clean one, I would not sign the International Cycling Union's new rider pledge. Without changes to the testing process and the due process given to athletes, signing this pledge would do nothing but give me more to lose if I were falsely accused.
