his righteous lambasting of chancellor kohl and president reagan during their visit to the bitburg cemetery where some ss men too are buried. reagan's understanding of the foolishness of patriotic young men is not quite enough to redeem mr. iran-contra etc; but it certainly is a generous moment. more than one can say for guenter grass, author also of the wonderful teen age sex and war novella CAT AND MOUSE.
