A Good Fellow and a Wise Guy

I enjoyed this article for several reasons, mainly because I am in complete agreement with your view that Appo's bio would have been far more interesting than Pickpockets Tale. I was left with more questions about Appo than answers after reading this book and the author seemed far more interested in getting bogged down with a lot of facts, figures and minutia than with Appos life. He shows several surviving photos of Appo et al, and also includes a photo of his tombstone. That photo alone left me asking myself "did Appo leave descendants?" Obviously someone cared enough about him to pay for a headstone, and yet Gilgoyle's mention of Appos relatives are nebulous at best and he does not go into the question of descendants. I do hope that someone does publish his autobiography, and I do hope that whoever it is happens to be a better writer than Gilfoyle.
