Salman Rushdie And British Backbone

Rushdie's most recent honor is an empty guesture. The response by Pakistan, however, is not. Britain, like the the rest of the west will deny the seriousness of the resurrected fatwa until it is too late. What would be so terribly wrong with some menacing rhetoric from Downing Street? Oh yeah, the British Navy already had its lunch eaten by Iran. Why would Pakistan give any credence to what the British say? Congratulations, Britain has been reduced to answering threats by bestowing knighthoods on marginally readable novelists. That'll show 'em.
