Prof. Remond was indeed an historian of note. But something of note also is that he consistently downplayed the strength of fascistic thought and allegiance among French conservatives and among Catholics. He was an apologist at the same time for conservative and Catholic thinkers and politicians. In this way he actually misrepresented a good deal of modern French history.
