I still laugh 'til I cry every time I reread that quote. Maybe up in Washington, all the illegal immigrants are lurking "in the shadows", but in our neck of the woods they're clogging up the lines at the DMV and hogging all the good washers at the laundromat. I'd have to stand naked on the counter singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" to get the attention of one of the cute bi-lingual cashiers at the local McDonald's. They're all too busy flirting with the lunch time illegal crowd (and I do mean crowd) to sling any McNuggets my way. I should just be grateful that they are indeed bi-lingual at that particular establishment. At many fast food places here, the cashiers can't even make change in English much less "hold the tomatoes". But seriously folks, just this morning a bright young student in our community was killed in a collision with a drunken illegal piloting a 5,000 pound SUV who had been arrested and convicted of multiple crimes in our community, one of which he is currently on probation for. This is just one in a string of sad, senseless homicides of the same nature in our area, and it won't be the last. This is the consequence of allowing ourselves to be overrun by masses of people who don't share our values ("drunk driving is bad") or respect our laws. We'd like to see our illegal population come out of the shadows and head back across the border.
