Thompson Scrutinized on Abortion

In today's world we find ourselves wrapped up in issues of little consequence. Whether or not abortion is legal has very little impact on how our country is performing. With the global economy, unpopular wars, outsourcing, immigration, unrest in the Middle East, energy and pollution, and a variety of other issues that face this country and threaten its influence on the rest of the world maybe an issue that only affects a small number of the population is not a good use of resources.

If a woman gets pregnant and does not want the child how will it impact the country if she chooses to have an abortion? When a factory shuts down and the work is outsourced to China or India and 500 Americans loose their jobs it is very easy to see how that affects the country as a whole.

In this new age of globalization and the emergence of underdeveloped nations and the strengthening of developed nations it would seem that the focus of a presidential candidate should focus on how they will keep our country on the forefront. America can control the world's economy by revaluing the dollar. Do we want to hand that power to another country? Do we want a communist country like China being the world leader in international trade and making decisions that can affect the whole world?

Interest groups are far too self-centered and have lost sight of what this country is all about and what is was built on. People came to this country to get away from governments that exceeded their control and violated human rights. Activist groups like these are trying to give the government the power to dictate how we live. This is the complete opposite of freedom. However at the same time they are screaming about free speech. Too often activist groups focus on the micro aspects of a situation while they should start thinking in the macro sense.

If the anti-abortion activist wants to put an end to abortion they should focus on anti-pregnancy and anti-rape. It is not in this countries best interest to discount a candidate simply on their view of abortion. Are the anti-abortion groups really trying to put their personal agenda above what is best for the country and its citizens?

A woman getting an abortion has never affected my bank account, my safety, or my personal moral standards. I want a government that can focus on keeping my country safe economically and militarily. Just remember, if you are against abortion don't complain about neglected children, Welfare, the alarming number of orphans, overcrowded prisons, the dropout rate of high school students, and the rising crime rate.
