The Next Iraq War

I always find it amusing how the view from the West is seen through the red tinted glasses of the Turkish state. The 20 million Kurds in Turkey have suffered as the Kurds in Iraq have suffered. At least the Kurds in Iraq did not have their culture and language taken away from them and attempts made to forcibly assimilate them into Arabic culture. The history of the Kurds in Turkey is one of severe and systematic repression and denial of rights. It is because of that denial and repression that the PKK exsists. And although the PKK did have Marxist beginnings it is very much now an national liberation movment involving all layers of Kurdish society.

The Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Massoud Barzani the leader of the Kurdish Regional Government are both Kurds and know better than anyone the suffering of the Kurds in Turkey. It is time for this absurd labelling of the Kurds in Turkey as 'terrorists' to end as it does nothing to see the reality of the situation. That is the denial of 30 Kurdish people in Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria their rights of self determination.

The one thing that an invasion of South Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) will do is to unite all the Kurds in the world to struggle for that right.
