U.N. Procurement Official Found Guilty of Bribery, Fraud

Submitted by Oscar FIESTAS-TEJADA, Jun 8, 2007 03:22

Dear Benny,

We are very happy that justice is been done, but … it is not yet finished, because it is true that "…the UN Procurement System has way to go before it is immune to fraud and embezzlement ..." and "… is still "not protected from waste, fraud and bribery …". Also, it is very unfair that a so courageous attitude, like the one of Ms. Jane REDFERN "… who fought the entire UN System to reverse an internal exoneration of Bahel, her former boss, must now contend with expensive legal bills, as the UN Legal Department refuses to pay legal fees she incurred during the trial …".

We should do everything possible to help United Nations to "moralize" its procurement procedures and operations, mainly the Peace Keeping ones, profiting today's momentum when the related department is in "re-organization", and avoid all injustices like the ones committed against Ms. Redfern.

By now, after reading what "happened" to Ms. Redfern, I am more convinced about the real sources of the "evaluations" of my performances, done by some UN staff. Personally, I will continuing fighting.

UN Procurement Department staff is not the only responsible of all this.
