You Can Find Solace In Not Being a Cubs Fan

The best managers, in both sports and business, are those that are able to spot the most competent people and use them effectively. In baseball Leo Durocher, who managed both the Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants, had a knack for finding players and putting them at different positions where they became stars. For example, Gil Hodges was a catcher that Leo moved to first base. Bobby Thomson was a center fielder that Leo put on third base, which was the reason the Giants won the pennant that year. Again and again Leo located and helped players become highly effective and in some cases stars. Willie Mays floundered when he came to the big leagues, but Leo stuck with the young player. Johnny Antonelli won only 17 games in four years with Milwaukee but under Leo he won 21 in his first year. All that is called management and good managers are few and far between.
