Fans Lose as Street Sense Skips Belmont

Street Sense passing the Belmont, in your words 'the biggest blow to racing, etc...' Perhaps that should be reconsidered. Yes, that is your opinion, and impossible to fault in that regard, but I seriously doubt any would share that assessment.

I don't remember the author of the quote, and I can't remember it verbatim, but I've never forgotten the meaning. "Each thoroughbred racehorse has x amount of races in his legs. Every time he/she runs, the equation becomes x-1. To my way of thinking, and apparently to the connections of Street Sense, it would be senseless to run the horse in the third leg of the Triple Crown. Maybe the fans are the ones that lose out in this situation...don't know for sure. But without 'anything' other than competition on the line after the Preakness loss an all-out effort in a useless spot could be a major deterrant if indeed Street Sense is being pointed for bigger races, higher honors, down the 2007 racing road.

If he's the highest caliber horse he'll be remembered for his Kentucky Derby win, pending Travers and BC Classic efforts. If he doesn't win the latter two races, he'll be remembered for the Kentucky Derby. The Preakness loss was a 'tough beat' for the horse, his connections, fans, etc, while the upcoming Belmont could be just another race on a pleasant Saturday afternoon.
