Recruited To Die

Submitted by Nancy Joyce Jancourtz, Jun 1, 2007 08:08

To: Brooke Goldstein, Heather Robinson, the Editors, et al.

I am profoundly affected by this courageous exercise. And, I trust this film is the seed needed to annihilate the "suicide- homicide" practice--anywhere and everywhere. The children (particularly the pubescent) are the must readily inculcated, and, of course, infants can also be easily taught to admire their older siblings...The whole process constitutes feeding the children poisoned candy--that which does not kill instantly--but festers as the child ripens.

Although I am one of those who has never personally witnessed the horror, or spoken to any of the people involved; I do offer some thoughts which this essay has stimulated:

(1) Ms. Goldstein's idea of bringing members of the legal and psychiatric professions together is one I believe beneficial in reaching justice through better comprehension of the people involved--and the plausible environmental magnets. I believe a similar combination of approaches should be applied to various criminal and abnormal acts here at home, as well. Judges and lawyers need psychologists and psychiatrists--and vice versa. We certainly have the enormous benefit of electronic communication, yet we do not exchange knowledge (I do not refer to on-the-street-vacuous-cell-phoning as such).

(2) As to what is presently rampant in the Middle East , to which Ms. Goldstein's film and Ms. Robinson's essay are focused: The refugee camps, I humbly surmise, offer a huge Petri dish of nourishment to nurture this horrific behavior. I do not have an answer--but suggest that the infant victims, as well as their elders, would benefit from living comfortably--in a democratic environment. All people are capable of moral deterioration under "appropriate" circumstances.

Thank you.

Nancy Joyce Jancourtz.
