Re: Losing Battle For Sderot ( May 22,2007 )

Although I fully agree with your above article, there are a few clarifications for

those readers who are not too familiar with the customs of this area.

I don't agree with the statement that "Anarchy" Within the Palestinian

Leadership has come to a point where, even if they chose to put a stop at shooting rockets at

us, they fear for their own lives from their Palestinian constituency. It is the Arab political

leaders who egg them on and fuel the hatred. Thus they should be responsible for the

outcome of their own actions.

Re is there another solution? As Jews who are guided by the ancient code of Humanity of the Old Testament, we make the same mistake that other nation have made in negotiations with enemies. When you negotiate peace you have to think in enemy logic,

to quote Abba Even " Arab logic stops where every body else's starts " We are not negotiating

or dealing with Swiss, Dutch, or Canadians. We are dealing with a people that enriched our

dictionary with words like Assassin, one who undertakes to kill treacherously ( a fanatic sect

of Islam at the time of the Crusaders ) and the term " Blood Feud " Unfortunately these are

the terms under which we have to deal so that we gain our neighbors respect. The Arabs,

who are renowned merchants, understand perfectly well when the right price is charged

for their aggressions. So we should have a price list published punishing them for every

act of aggression.

The absurd irony is that we feel a humanitarian responsibility towards our

neighbors who instead of respecting us translate it into our weakness. We supply them with

Port facilities, Water supply, Electric supply, and advanced medical treatment, all this under

sporadic Kassam rocket attacks, and other bloody terrorist attacks against us.

Sincerely Yours

Dov Gilon
