Well, you can never be sure exactly what James Taranto is up to. Sometime his writing is obviously either polemical or satiric. With his remark on the "NOPEC" legislation, as it is called in your editorial. it really is hard to know. Irony? Rhetoric aside, this is just another fine example of "American Exceptionalism" US Administrations do not wish to subscribe to an International Court of Justice, possibly because of the Nicaragua v United States of America decision where the USA was found guilty of supporting terrorism. BUT you believe you have the right to call to account what sovereign nations would do with their own resources. If a nation wishes to keep production and distribution of its natural resources under the control of a state enterprise in order to ensure that it maximises the return to the commonwealth of that nation that is surely the business of that particular nation. If a group of such nations all believe in the same idea that is their right. Or is it "Manifest Destiny" that the US controls all the oil resources in the world, despite what those nations and people of those nation who actually own the resource desire
