The Congressman is on the mark on this one. He is doing the right thing protecting the interest of the American taxpayers. The editors here question who hired Mr. Register. That dubious honor goes to the current Alhurra President, Brian Conniff. Mr. Conniff used an outside executive recruiting firm and interviewed four individuals before soley selecting Mr. Register. The recuriting fee by the recuriting firm cost the hard work taxpayers of America about $100,000. Mr. Register received a sign on bouns of about $25K. Mr. Register also is compensated at OPM Executive Level II, about $165,000 per annum. The OPM limit is currently Executive level III about $154,000. No Board member was involved in the selection process. They just affirmed Mr. Conniff's selection of Mr. Register without checking his qualifications or even interviewing him to be an Executive Vice President of News Operations. Although US network televison executives make millons, here, Alhurra paid for what it gets.

The editors also question here who is running the show at the BBG? Well, again, it's Mr. Conniff. He retired last June 2006 as the Staff Executive Director of the BBG (a government agency). The BBG Board granted him a going away present by naming him as the President of Alhurra at $154,000 per annum plus up to 40% bonus on top of his government retirement. Nice fellow though, but no real televsion experience.
