As a teacher, I am appalled that someone would choose to use instructional time to show a movie that has no educational/academic value. To show a film that has a restricted rating to children under the age, without parent consent, was an act of irresponsible idiocy. It is a teacher's, and school's job, to educate students on the state approved curriculum----substitue teachers do not have the right to deviate from required instruction. And R-rated films at not time have a place in the classroom of students under the restricted age. As a teacher, it is my job to educate students, and in doing so, I must also respect the rights of parents to guide the social and moral development of their children. It is the epitome of inappropriateness, unprofessional, and completely unethical for a teacher to create a situation where they make choices for children that are outside of the boundaries of the educational environment and that which encroach upon the rights of the parents.
