Dear Ms. Phillips, and the Editors:

Contrary to the abysmal results of our public schools (and some private--as well); I do applaud the writer's ability to express herself grammatically, as well as to content. This is an opinion that indicates intelligence, thoughtfulness, and a comprehension of affirmative action--from her personal experience. It is my conclusion that the young lady will continue to grow more astute; and perhaps even enter the profession of journalism...

I suggest to the Editors of the New York Sun, that you consider publishing a high schooler's opinion--once monthly, or more; granting our students a chance to express themselves on these pages, and your readership the opportunity to read and learn from these young people's ideas...

Furthermore, Mr. Mayor, Mr. Chancellor, principals, teachers, and teachers' union officials: Why cannot the vast majority of public school students--pursuant to age and grade--express themselves properly in our English language? Think about it--and come to appropriate answers,rather than nonsensical expressions of bravado as to microscopic increases in test scores--if, indeed, real.
