Starters Work Less Today, but No Less Hard

Submitted by Mike Neuner, May 15, 2007 15:47

The offensive approach to the game has dramatically changed the landscape. How many pitches per inning in the 60s as opposed to today? With today's emphasis on OBP, pitches per PA, and the like as opposed to the "see a pitch and hack away" mentality prevalent throughout baseball in the 1960s, there is much more exertion expended per inning in today's game as opposed to yesteryear.
