Freedom is not only threatened in the Netherlands but all over Western Europe. The fusion of relativism /socialism, anti-Americanism and militant Islam has created a very dangerous beast. The mainstream society is still living in denial. Although wars have been fought with Muslim invaders since at least the 8th century a frank and honest discussion about the dangers of this enemy is more or less outlawed. Recently the bureaucrats of the European Union have drawn up guidelines advising government spokesmen to refrain from linking Islam and terrorism in their statements. A new deal also specifies one- to three-year prison terms be available for incitement to hatred "against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin" (i.e. an ambiguous and rather creepy formula "accidentally" evoked one year after the cartoon affair). Have these men and women forgotten 1300 years of Islamic imperialism? Have they forgotten the Battle of Tours? The fall of Constantinople? The Battle of Vienna? Have they forgotten hundreds of years of terror, piracy and slave hunting (all the way up to the British Islands, the North Sea and even Iceland)? Obviously... Although not to enthusiastic I hope that President Sarkozy and Bundeskanzlerin Merkel will light the way.
