Mark Moyar, Historian of Vietnam, Finds Academe Hostile to a Hawk

Submitted by Steven E. Woodworth, May 1, 2007 11:38

Dr. Moyer's story sounds all too familiar. From my position as a lonely conservative historian within the liberal stronghold that is American adacemia today, I can say that discrimination against conservatives and also against Christians within this profession is rampant, blatant, and vicious. It is virtually unbiquitous and it is routinely covered by the sort of bald-faced lying Dr. Moyer has encountered. The presence of Hillsdale, Grove City, and a handful of conservative Christian colleges--all privately financed--does not begin to counterbalance the vast juggernaut of tax-payer-funded liberal academia. It's time the American people took back their universities. That means doners must be careful not to donate to institutions where their views are given short shrift. Likewise voters must demand that their elected representatives cut off funding to state institutions that will not give their viewpoint a fair hearing. Academia will understand the language of funding cuts and no other. Don't be put off by pleas for "academic freedom." No one believes less in academic freedom than the leftist tyrants who rule academia today.
