With the main character being named Christopher...well, is that a tip of the authors hat to the protagonist being a 'Christ bearer' which is what Christopher translates as? (As in St. Christopher, the gentle giant who walked people back and forth acorss swollen river fords back in Medieval days?

I thank you for your recommendation. I guess I know what my summer reading list will be. My proglem with Tony Sophrano is that I gave up after 3 or 4 seasons because he was more and more sui generis. He wasn't a good guy trapped in a social situation that he had to live with. Watching him week after week was like dealing with a rogue tractor the direction of which you never knew the next move of. There was very little gold under the mud caked exterior which was pretty much all of what we usually got. And besides, I live in Forest Hills which is now full of Russian gangsters in big fancy houses...at some point entertainment should be escapeism. This is all too close to home. And yes, in the quiet of the evening I have heard the occassional bullet fly. Living less than a quarter of a mile from Corona Park all I can think of now is that it's the new Rlussian burial ground. Black money begets black deeds. And you know what? they all do wear trenchcoats and wide brimmed (a la Jack Abrahamoff) fedoras. I'll stick with George Trow's father's fedora. Ciao.
