The Eyes of Hope

It is difficult to estimate the significance of Benedict XVI's remarks because his constituency does not vote. It is open to question whether the Pontif has a constituency other than those whose political positions his remarks might seem to support. Does the Pontif sway opinion in Europe or South America? Probably not. Is his good will necessary to those efforts in the world made in behalf of liberty? Probably not. Perhaps the religious leader's comments are not significant in themselves but have only the srtrength given them by your attention.
