Impoverished minds seeking moving tales of sexual conflict and redemption go straight to the pornography merchants. Sex in the theater is only interesting when is included as an aspect or manifestation of love, even misplaced and misguided love. The tale of Abelard and Heloise becomes more interesting after his castration by her family's vindicators of her "honor". Status drives humanity, and a bonded pair will defend a territory, but sex is a natural gift bestowed upon all of humanity without regard for wealth, intelligence, and accomplishment. Its universal appreciation makes it a tempting subject for an author seeking a mass audience, so we see a lot of ill-considered sex dramas. It's the human condition.
