Hotel Mania Hits City

While plans for a new hotel on 8th Avenue between 54th Street and 55th Street have changed (now it will be a huge office building wrapping around 55th Strret to include the old Hearst building, and around 54th Street to include the New York State Department of Labor), I have not heard further news on a previously announced Marriott boutique hotel on Broadway West on 54th Street up to and including the Kinkos. The Kinkos end of the block will close May 31st for demolition, as will the Dept. of Labor on the same date, despite a small commercial/residential building between them. Coincidence? Or are these projects somehow linked?
